The Biggest Loser Interviewby Pattye Grippo

This is an interview with Ramon Medeiros on November 23, 2011 about the show The Biggest Loser.

Ramon Medeiros

Question:
Can you share with me who you were before Biggest Loser and who do you see in the mirror now?

Ramon Medeiros:
I kind of have the same attitude as I did on the show, but it was very fake. It was an act, I went into everything with a great attitude, but it was all totally fake and when I went on the Biggest Loser I decided to change 100%. And when I went there I had a real attitude and it was a great attitude and I decided to take everything head-on 100%. The guy I look at the mirror today is the guy that I've been wanting to look in that mirror for a long, long time.

Question:
Can you speak about the deep friendship and unity you have with Vinny and what it meant to both of you to share in your prize money?

Ramon Medeiros:
Vinny is one of my best friends that I have ever met in my entire life. I consider him one of my great friends and, you know not just for on the show, in life I talk to this guy every day. And you know, sharing the money with him for our Thanksgiving gift was the best possible choice I could make. And you know, if I could do it again ten times, I'd give him ten more times the cash.

Question:
Can you tell me what motivated you to lose more weight after you came home after the Ranch?

Ramon Medeiros:
It had a lot to do with Jess and it also had a lot to do with I'm still in the game. I'm coming back to win this marathon and get back into the top three that's what I want to do. I want to come back and there's a lot I have to proof on that Ranch. I'm a gamer I came in to do a job and I'm going to finish it.

Question:
What are your goals now?

Ramon Medeiros:
My goals right now or what's next for me it's limitless. Jumping out of a plane let me know that I could anything and I'm not scared of anything anymore. And now I just wake up every day happy and I look forward to whatever comes my way.

Question:
Business wise or just in general?

Ramon Medeiros:
Any venture I could possibly think with health, business personal, any type. I'm ready for the challenge.

Question:
Let's talk about Thanksgiving and how things are going to be different this year?

Ramon Medeiros:
Well things are going to be tremendously different because I'm way less weight. I think this year me and Jess are spending it together and we're going to turn Thanksgiving a day where you are spending with your family and you're spending eating, we're going to actually spend some quality time together and we're going to exercise and we're going to go on a 30-35-40 mile-an-hour bike ride on our Cannondales and get busy.

Question:
Tell me about Jessica. Was there a moment at the Ranch when it clicked and how are things going for you guys now at home?

Ramon Medeiros:
For me at the Ranch I always thought Jess was beautiful, I just seen the beauty in the eyes, I've seen the beauty in her heart. And I know I knew that once she got a place where she could come bring out that smile.

Question:
Could tell me about your own little private makeover that you got?

Ramon Medeiros:
I was getting kind of grizzly there and it was time to make a change. I felt a lot better about myself and I wanted to surprise the heck out of Jess and come with a new haircut and a new beard and new look.

Question:
What was your take on that whole situation with John giving Sunny the one pound disadvantage and then Anton kind of calling him out in the Elimination Room?

Ramon Medeiros:
At this point in the contest it's a game, it became a game. And you do everything there when you're at that Ranch to win no matter what at any cost and that's what John did, John is a gamer. He came there to win and that's exactly what he's going to do. If he's going to try and give himself a leg up he's going to do it. And you know, Anton saying what he said to John is just Anton feelings about and maybe that will give him a good push for those two to go head-to-head sometime.

Question:
You talked about your bucket list on the show last night, can you tell us a few things that are on your bucket list?

Ramon Medeiros:
For me my Number 1 definitely wasn't skydiving and you know I did that totally for Jess. But on my bucket list there's a lot of things that are going beyond the personal stuff there's a lot of adventurous things that I want to do that I never thought I could possibly do being so overweight. I want to get in that shark cage at North Shore Hawaii and just be totally scared out of my mind, I think that would be a great adventure. And do some snorkeling and do some surfing again and do some rock climbing and some bungee jumping and sky's the limit so that's exactly what I'm going to do.

Question:
Are you going to continue to be a tattoo artist or is your career going to take a different track now?

Ramon Medeiros:
Right now I'm totally focused on the task at hand I'm losing weight and everything but I'm never going to lose the tattooing, I'm always going to be a tattoo artist, whether I'm I have my own shop or not I'm still going to be doing that. But my career is going to take a turn I'm ready to be a personal trainer and I think that a lot of people can use my help and I'm ready to share the knowledge and I know that Jess as well Jess is in that same mindset and we're ready to take everybody who needs the help head-on.

Question:
You were speaking about the marathon earlier, what is your training like for that and what is your daily exercise regime like more away from the Ranch?

Ramon Medeiros:
I kind of keep the same schedule I get up in the morning and I do I do a 3 to 5-mile run when I'm not doing my marathon training. And I lift three days a week and I also do a lot of cardio I constantly don my Cannondale road bike just getting it done, trying to burn up energy. I'm going four to six hours a day which is a little less than on the Ranch, but it's what works in the real world. Just training for the marathon I trained in Pittsburgh with a gal named Susie who helped me when I first started training for this marathon. And then I trained with Jeff a lot for a marathon and I also trained in Denver with a guy named John Escabel who's names is Skeeball. And he's helped me a lot training with the Regis University team and it got me to where I could run and run with regular people.

Question:
How was it for you watching this season of Biggest Loser?

Ramon Medeiros:
Watching the show in its entirety was pretty crazy because we are getting to see it first hand and there's things that we remember and we're like, "Oh yes, that totally takes us back," and it's a pretty cool thing. And seeing Jess and I's relationship unfold in front of America's eyes was a pretty cool thing because I definitely want to show the world how beautiful that girl is.

Question:
Is there anything you felt in the competition or on the show that you could have done differently?

Ramon Medeiros:
I think that now that I look back there's really nothing that I would have changed because as it unfolded every day I did everything at 100%, everything my exact hardest. And the way the numbers fell what had happened every day was meant to happen and that's truly how I feel. I was brought there for a reason and it saved my life and everything happens exactly how it's planned in God's life.

Question:
Where do you see yourself for the next couple of years as far as staying healthy and what kind of advice can you give to our people who have to eat?

Ramon Medeiros:
It's a lot with the Hawaiian culture, and you know Hawaiian food especially, it's about changing it's about changing what you do. Changing that white rice over brown rice, changing your quantity doing everything in moderation. I've helped my dad and me and him we love white rice we eat it at every meal and now we've changed to brown rice and we've changed to just cup, not a plateful. We cut out the mac salad sorry to say but that's what we had to do. And you know, you can still enjoy your food big time in your culture, but just do it in moderation. And once you get to that point in a healthy lifestyle you can add back in everything you want.

Question:
Are you going to ask her to marry you?

Ramon Medeiros:
It is in the cards for Jess and I to get married, but it will be in the future. There's a lot of things that we have to do on our own and there's a lot of things that we have to do together. We're a new couple and we're going to just get into the real world now and I want to see how things go, take it a little slow and we're not going anywhere so we're going to be together for a long, long time.

Question:
What did you think about Anton calling out John about his decision? Can you break that down for us a little more?

Ramon Medeiros:
Anton calling out John at elimination, I kind of just sat there and listened, because that's how Anton felt and that's exactly how John felt. John a gamer so is Anton, so they were each gaming each other right there and that's how that's they do. Those big giants know how to get under each other's skin and that's okay they're playing a game right now.
