The Biggest Loser Interviewby Pattye Grippo

This is an interview with Pamela Geil on January 22, 2013 about the show The Biggest Loser.

Pamela Geil

Can you talk a bit about this journey and how hard it was to overcome the mental aspect of how and why Jillian was pushing you so hard in the gym?

Pamela Geil:
I think when you start on the show you forget that it's more than just a weight loss journey, it's an emotional journey as well because of the emotion it's how we get to where to where we are. I don't think I was ready for it, I mean obviously I'm glad for the process and I'm glad I got to break through those walls because as you see, you know, I am doing this at home.

I think at the time I didn't understand why Jillian was pushing me so hard but I'm grateful that she did. I think that I'm much more successful today because I had her in my seat pushing me so hard and making me realize that I can do it. We don't have a lot of time so I think she needs to push that hard to get you to be where you need to be as quick as possible.

Can you help me understand who you were before compared to who you are now?

Pamela Geil:
I had lost my mom in March of last year and I was just the heaviest I've ever been in my life, I was terribly depressed. I'd lost my mother and my best friend and I was just in a really sad place.

I was just going through the motions of life and this show has really given me my life back. I almost begin to wonder if I ever really lived before this show because I had never been an athletic, I had never challenged myself physically. And I'm amazed every day how much further and further and stronger I get, I meant this process just absolutely saved my life.

No regrets?

Pamela Geil:
No regrets, none whatsoever, even with Jullian, no regrets.

Thinking back to when you first arrived at the ranch, how different were your expectations from what the reality was?

Pamela Geil:
I didn't think, and this is going to sound so ridiculous because I was a fan of the show, but I didn't think it was going to be as hard as it was. I mean not just the emotional aspect, the physical aspect. I didn't think that the workouts were going to be as bad as they were. They were tough.

What's your favorite memory from being on The Biggest Loser?

Pamela Geil:
I really think my favorite memory other than my complete meltdown on the scale during my scale down was the 5K. I never, ever thought I could of run it, let alone come in third and when I reached that finish line and Danny is just coming across to meet me, it was an amazing moment for me, it was an amazing moment for her and I as a team and it's probably one of my favorite moments on the ranch.

What's next for you?

Pamela Geil:
I am determined to become a runner, I actually would like to try a Tough Mudder. I can't believe I'd ever say that running is fun but they look like fun, so I just really look forward to really pushing myself physically and becoming the best person I can be.
