Tanisha Gets Married Interviewby Pattye Grippo

Tanisha Thomas

This is an interview with Tanisha Thomas on May 3, 2012 about the show Tanisha Gets Married.

Question:
What was the biggest challenge for you working on the series?

Tanisha Thomas:
The biggest challenge was taking direction from someone else. The head of production created Jersey Shore. And let me tell you I met my match. She was the baddest bitch from Long Island, I'm the baddest bitch from Brooklyn, so we had our moments.

But all in all it was love and we got the work done. I think that was one of the most challenging moments putting my family out there, this was their first time every doing anything like this and ever being filmed and stuff, so I didn't know how you know they would respond. And they would run to me for everything. But, it all worked out in the end.

Question:
What surprised you the most when you were making this series?

Tanisha Thomas:
I thought everybody knew who I was but wouldn't shut up anyway. It was just like, ???This is my wedding. This is my day. This is what I want.??? And at the end of the day it was just like no one cared. They wanted to say how they felt. They wanted to get their input. And I'm just like, ???This is my day. What makes you think I care about hat you say????

Question:
What would say is the most memorable moment for you for making this series?

Tanisha Thomas:
I think one of the most memorable moments was the dress. Most girls go crazy when it's time to fit into the wedding dress and get ready and prepare for all that kind of stuff. I honestly didn't care about going on a diet. But that's out there for me and I know that I will find one. I had no idea how much trouble I was going to go through to find the perfect dress because I wanted it to be a reflection of my personality.

And at the end of the day, I ended up finding the most beautiful dress. I actually had custom made and I was very excited, and I loved it. And, it was honestly one of the most memorable moments of the entire wedding. Just to see me in that dress was beautiful. It was absolutely beautiful. I think I proved to everyone out there like you don't have to starve yourself to death to find your perfect dress.

Question:
What can you tell us about the story line?

Tanisha Thomas:
There's a lot that happens that I did not expect to happen. For one my best friend of the last three years professed his love to me on the show, and it was just like, ???What???? It just kind of came out of nowhere. And that kind of really turned things upside down, as you can imagine. I was prepping for you know the biggest day of my life. And to be hit with that kind of news was crazy. You know also you throw a couple of bad girls into your mix it just kind of turns everything upside down as well.

So there's a lot for people to look forward to. This is just a first look at my life, what goes on. Like it's an inside look at my world. I never revealed any of this stuff to anyone before. People have followed my career for years, but this is the first time they get to see where I come from. Where I live. Like my family. My friends. Where I grew up. My home. Like, this is like a backstage pass of you know my world.

Question:
What made you decide to televise your wedding in the first place?

Tanisha Thomas:
I just figured I grew up on Oxygen. I grew up on Oxygen and it's only fitting that I document that for the fans to see.

Question:
Have you already watched the series?

Tanisha Thomas:
No, I haven't. I will be watching the series along with everyone else for the first time. I am so nervous. This is the first time in my life that I am nervous. I am nervous, I am anxious all at the same time.

Question:
Are you concerned about the way you'll be portrayed?

Tanisha Thomas:
No. I'm not concerned about the way I'm going to be portrayed. That's the difference between me and everyone else. Like a lot of people they're going, ???Oh, my God.??? You know, ???Oh, my God. The editing. What did I just say? What did I do???? I'm kind of concerned about what everyone else is going to say, like my family. What happened? That kind of stuff. You know, like that's what I'm most concerned about. I'm really anxious to see what happens. There's a lot that happened that I knew nothing about, and I'm nervous.

I mean the difference between me and everyone else out there like the reality people is like I own my stuff. Like I'm not one to be like, ???Oh, my God. I can't believe I did that.??? I do TV. This is what I do for a living. I know what it is. I've build a fan base at Oxygen and people love me for that. I'm so relatable and I keep it real. That's how I do it. I keep it real all day.

Question:
After this series, do you have anything planned in terms of your next move?

Tanisha Thomas:
Yes, I do. I do actually. Oh, my God. There's so much. I can't really talk about it too much, but you'll be seeing a lot more of me. Oxygen's my home and I plan on making it my home for awhile, so there'll be hopefully many more projects that you guys will see me on. I'm also set to launch a whole curvy girl empire. Pretty much allow people to embrace their curves. I'm still working on a book and stuff like that. So I'm really excited about building my empire. And kind of like you know relishing in the success.

Question:
How about those around you? Those that were featured in the show maybe for the first time, were they concerned as how they would appear to the general public?

Tanisha Thomas:
Oh, yes. This is the first time that my family and my friends were ever like filmed and stuff like that, and they were very nervous. They didn't know how the whole thing worked. Like this was my world. They were stepping into my world, but you know I reassured them just be yourself. At the end it's only five months. At the end of the day, whether you mess up or not, it's you. And like you can always defend that.

Question:
Did you ever feel the need to play up to the camera to make the story line more interesting? Is that a kind of pressure that any of the producers put on you?

Tanisha Thomas:
No. I am drama. You cannot put drama on me. You cannot force me to do anything. I am, so that's what I am.

Question:
Do you feel like there are any downfalls that come with celebrity outside of the obvious you know - yes.

Tanisha Thomas:
Oh, yes. Absolutely. There's a lot of pressure from the public. I feel like one of the hardest things is the privacy. I feel like your privacy is out the door. I feel like people like really feel like they know you-know you because of reality. Whereas I'm sure some people seeing Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt walking down the street, oh yes there was a gawk and stare and point, but I doubt they would slap them on the back like they slap me.
